My daughter has always loved the movie Pocohantas and I had it in the back of my mind that I would throw her a Pocohantas themed birthday party one year. Before I knew it, she was getting ready to turn 8 and she became adamant that she no longer wanted to do character themed parties. So, I compromised! Kristen and I came up with a beautiful, sophisticated party complete with tee-pees and a “campfire” and it turned out to be our favorite yet!
I used PicMonkey to design an invitation that matched the theme of the party. It is so easy to make stunning invitations on PicMonkey but if you are short on time, you can find several options on Etsy.
The Decor
The focus of this party were these super simple ribbon teepees. The frames for the teepees were made out of four 1″ x 2″ boards that were cut to 6′ tall and tied together with twine. For ribbons, we used several different rolls of gold ribbon that we purchased on clearance after Christmas. We also bought a few white bed sheets from a thrift store and dyed them in the party colors then cut them into strips. The ribbons and sheets were wrapped around each board and secured with small gold safety pins.
A gold paper banner was strung between each teepee. We found ours on clearance at Michaels but you can also find similar ones on Amazon. A string of battery operated lights with gold globes was hung in a cluster inside each teepee to give the girls some light after the lights were turned off. We bought the lights on clearance at Target a few years ago and were just waiting for the perfect party to use them for!
The “campfire” in the middle of the room was probably my favorite part of the whole party and my husband gets all the credit for it. He pulled our Halloween witch cauldron out of the attic then placed pieces of wood from his woodpile around it. River rocks from our yard were added to make it look more authentic. Everything sat on an old sheet so the carpet didn’t get dirty. Doesn’t it look like a real campfire?
The tall wooden feathers were actually the inspiration for this party. We bought them from a decor company that was selling old decor and knew they’d be used for the perfect party at some point. We placed them in pots alongside a ribbon curtain made out of extra dyed bed sheet strips, lace and burlap ribbon from our craft stash. The curtain separated the rest of the house from the Glampground!
Kristen’s picture frame was the perfect place to hang the happy birthday banner, feathers, and an arrow. We hung it above the popcorn bar which included a variety of sweet and salty treats served in gold metal buckets and vases. Wood slices from a previous party added a rustic touch.
Arrows made out of gold icicle Christmas ornaments and scrapbook paper were a fun addition. They were hung on the branches of a dried century plant that Kristen painted white and sprayed with gold spray paint. She uses it for her everyday decor but we thought it fit the theme nicely. A fun sign from Wal-Mart and a wooden arrow completed the decor in the Glampground.
The Food
No Glamping Birthday Party is complete without some fun food. The glampers enjoyed mini turkey burgers, cheese puffs, fruit salad and veggies with dip. We used coupons and shopped at a discount grocery store and veggie market to keep the food costs low.
I quickly made some food labels on PicMonkey and we served everything in dishes we already owned. We used a dyed bedsheet for a tablecloth and added stick placemats, a wooden stump, and antlers from our yard to tie everything together with the glamping theme.
The Activities
To kick off the Glamping Birthday Party, the glampers each colored their own pillowcase. I found an inexpensive pack of pillowcases and fabric markers on Amazon. One tip…wash your pillowcases before the party and hang them up to dry. Don’t use the dryer or they could shrink as mine did!
In addition to decorating pillowcases, they played several slumber party games, did some karaoke and then ended the night by watching Pocohantas.
The party favors included a small notebook & pen and eyemask placed in a zippered pouch. We were so lucky to find perfectly themed items at Dollar Tree! It is our favorite place to go for inexpensive party favors that are always a big hit!
This Glamping Birthday Party was so fun to pull off and all the girls had a blast! My daughter enjoyed her very first slumber party and can’t wait to go glamping with her friends again!

Such a cute idea for a party. And I love the frugal ways you created all of the decor and party favors! Great job!
Thanks, Crystal! Coming up with frugal decor ideas is the thing we love most when planning these parties!
